Dementia Friendly Toolkit
Building Our Dementia Friendly Communities
Providing community spaces/environments that are supportive, safe and welcoming to people living with dementia.
Part of our aspiration is to encourage individuals, groups, organisations, including businesses, to become inclusive and accessible to enable people to live independently and well in their communities.
“Working to become dementia friendly” is about being on a journey — one that reflects your commitment and aspiration to do things differently within your team, organisation, or service. It means recognising how dementia can affect people’s lives and starting to think more carefully about how to support customers, staff, and volunteers who are living with it. It’s all about taking those first steps, guided by a simple plan that helps turn good intentions into meaningful action.
People affected by dementia have said that organisations can make a big difference in supporting them to live independent lives with a real sense of wellbeing.
To do this we are developing a simple self assessment toolkit to help identify areas where small changes can be made to to “work to become dementia friendly.”
An example:
• You like playing golf
• You are diagnosed with dementia
• The likelihood is, you still like playing golf!
So how can we support your local golf club to welcome you and feel confident that their community offer is inclusive?
You can download the Toolkit here and have a go at working through it independently.
If you do choose to use the toolkit, it would be great to hear from you and gather some feedback about your experience and potentially build up some case studies to reflect the impact of this within our community.
If you have any questions about this or would like further support, contact Gwynneth: gwynneth.rdan@gmail.com
As part of this commitment, we would then be very happy to share the logo so we can build up a trusted brand across Nottinghamshire.
